OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A veteran stock car driver was killed in a modified 200 mile race at the Oswego Speedway, authorities said.
Jim Shampine, 41, was killed in the accident Saturday night, officials said.
Shampine was killed when his car spun out on the second turn and was hit broadside by a car driven by Ron Sheppard of Elmira. Shampine was taken to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead of multiple injuries.
Shampine, who had raced for 20 years, was track champion at Oswego eight times and had won the modified 200 race three times.
